Amid escalating attacks against immigrant communities, voters headed to the polls and elected pro-immigrant champions prepared to defend all New Yorkers
New York, NY – Last night, New York voters showed up to support their immigrant neighbors through the ballot box by electing leaders who will stand up against rogue ICE agents abducting their neighbors, and who are determined to build a state where all New Yorkers can thrive.
Leading up to the midterms, the Trump administration fueled a disinformation campaign designed to intimidate voters and sow fear and distrust in the country’s electoral system. This campaign included amplifying false claims of noncitizen voting. But on election day, New Yorkers and voters across the country rejected the federal government’s anti-immigrant rhetoric and elected leaders prepared to defend our democracy and immigrant families.
NYIC Action’s slate of endorsed candidates emerged victorious in their races for New York State Governor, LT. Governor, Attorney General, Congress, Senate and State Assembly. At a moment when the federal government is escalating its attack on immigrant New Yorkers, these results underscore a clear message of support for immigrant justice.
Murad Awawdeh, President & CEO, NYIC Action
"New Yorkers across the state have sent a strong message to the Trump administration: immigrants are welcome here. Our communities that power New York State–from farmworkers in Cayuga County to home health aides in Nassau County to teachers in Buffalo–deserve safety, dignity, and opportunity. That’s why New Yorkers elected a slate of candidates who have demonstrated their commitment to fighting against Trump's fascist regime and ICE’s terror. We congratulate NYIC Action’s endorsed candidates for their wins, and we look forward to working alongside them in Albany and Washington to advance our economy, improve the lives of all New Yorkers, and build a state and country where everyone is supported and celebrated.”
