New York, NY–On Sunday, July 31 at 1:00PM, the New York Immigration Coalition Action, Yalla Brooklyn, the Muslim Democratic Club of NY, The Jewish Vote, Jewish Voices for Peace Action PAC, and New York Progressive Action Network will rally outside of An-Noor Center in Bay Ridge in support of Brittany Ramos DeBarros for NY-11. Ramos DeBarros is the progressive military veteran, Afro-Latina and Staten Islander running in the NY-11 Democratic Congressional primary against Max Rose. She is the first Puerto Rican and Latina candidate to ever run in the district (which was called NY-13 before 2012).
NY-11 was redrawn during NY’s redistricting process this year, and currently encompasses all of Staten Island, and much of South Brooklyn including Bay Ridge, Bath Beach, Dyker Heights, Gravesend, Sheepshead Bay and Bensonhurst. The Congressional district has been represented by Republican Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis since 2020. NY-11 has seen highly competitive races in recent years, but only two Democrats have been elected since 1980.
